Deep Fryer Safety Tips Everybody Should Know

While eating fried food on a daily basis isn't recommended for a healthy diet, there's no denying that fried food can be a wonderful treat every so often. At the same time, however, frying food can be dangerous if you don't know what you're doing, as frying oils can get extremely hot and even a small splatter of hot oil on the skin can cause serious burns. By keeping some tips in mind, however, just about anybody who obtains frymaster parts can successfully use a fryer.

Don't Overcrowd the Fryer Basket

One of the most common mistakes made when using a fryer with a built-in frying basket is that of putting too much food in the basket at once. When you do this, you run the risk of your food not getting evenly cooked, which is a health hazard when it comes to frying meats (such as chicken wings). Furthermore, if the frying basket is too crowded, you could end up with overflowing of oil from the fryer, which can become a very dangerous situation rather quickly.

Know Proper Cooking Temperatures

Whenever you're frying raw meat that's been battered, it's an absolute must that you know the proper temperatures at which to do so. For instance, the minimum temperature at which chicken is considered safe for human consumption is 165 Fahrenheit. Always make sure that you check the temperature of the food so that you know it's 100% done and safe to eat. Specifically, a quick-read digital meat thermometer will make the process simple and fast.

Dispose of Used Oil Properly

Finally, know how to deal with the oil once you're done cooking. Always allow it to cool completely, but don't let it harden within the fryer itself. If you plan on reusing the oil, pour it into a glass container and refrigerate it until your next use. On the other hand, if the oil needs to be discarded (for instance, if it has a foul odor), then the best way to do so is to pour the oil into a glass jar and throwing it into the trash. Never pour used oil down a drain, as this can cause major plumbing clogs.

As you can see, there's a lot to keep in mind when it comes to frying food, whether in a frymaster or even at home in a pot of hot oil. By keeping these tips in mind, you'll be well on your way to delicious fried food in no time.
